Hi, I am Adam Cohn.
My overall philosophy is that exposure and connection to other cultures and lifestyles leads to empathy, which in turn leads to a reduction of intolerance and an increase of peace around the world. I believe that my photos connect lives from distant places to people who may never experience those places otherwise. And while I travel, I try to act as an ambassador for my country and my culture, by developing connections with people I meet along the way.
A true Seattle native, I’ve spent nearly my entire life in the area, aside from a brief chapter in Kigali, Rwanda. My passion for photography sparked in high school when some friends marveled at the photos I took at raucous party, where I captured shots of beer flying through the air, freezing the moment mid-splash. My friends' reactions to those photos led me to enroll in the high school’s photography class as my final elective, where I was honored with an award by year’s end.
In college, I carried my parents' Nikon F film camera on campus every day, honing my craft through constant practice. I spent countless hours in the dormitory's darkroom developing my film and prints, and learning from trial and error.
In 2001, I bought my first digital camera and embarked on my first extended solo trip abroad, marking the beginning of my dual passions for travel and photography. Back then, I uploaded my photos over painfully slow dial-up connections, eager to share my experiences with friends back home.
With passports boasting stamps from approaching 100 countries, I still embrace every opportunity to capture life around the world. While working in product management at Zillow for a decade, I found time on the side to become the in-house photographer, capturing events and headshots, allowing me to expand my skills, especially with flash photography.
With my wife as my primary travel partner, I plan to continue roaming the world, connecting with strangers and sharing their environments and experiences with the world. When I am at home, I love being the photographer at gatherings ranging from milestone moments to concerts and events. Whether in the bustling slums of Bangladesh or at a swanky formal event in Seattle, I am driven by a desire to tell genuine stories through my lens.
